The books in this series seriously keep getting better, which considering the series started at 5 stars, seems improbable. As improbable as a hot, sexy, heartwarming hysterically funny romance between a cranky, cantankerous, snarky, loner Alpha human with anxiety and PTSD and the almost equally Alpha, dry-witted, generally zen-like emotionally controlled, former enforcer of one of the most powerful werewolf packs in existence. This is the best thing I have read in a LONG time and I hope there are many more books to come!This installment sees Cooper Dayton and Oliver Park on loan from the Trust going undercover as a “personal favor” to Cooper’s former BSI boss. A lone werewolf has gone missing. Park’s past as an enforcer collides with his present and provides an opportunity to make amends of sorts. He once clashed with the missing werewolf Thomas Kreuger and Kreuger having to surrender his pack and his status to Park was pretty much destroyed. He became a pariah among werewolves; eventually settling in North Carolina as the handyman at….a werewolf couples retreat. Except now he’s missing and his former mate suspects foul play.What could possibly go wrong? Really, it’s just a chance for Cooper and Oliver to have a 5-day vacation. It’s not like they actually need relationship counseling. It’s not like ever since deciding to buy a house together, Cooper hasn’t been completely freaking out over change, giving up his autonomy, fears of inadequacy and not being good enough and hating Park’s penchant for McMansions. Cooper and Park solve another interesting mystery with the usual plot twists and colorful side characters. Cooper stresses over his Alpha Quotient test, worried that he’s not what Oliver needs, and that Oliver thinks he’s “more” than he is; but when put to the literal test (not the pen and paper one that he's so worried about); as usual he shows his true Alpha potential to the rival “werewolf boss”: Cooper held De Luca’s gaze and leaned closer, voice barely above a whisper. “Look at me. If you even try to stop me, and something happens to Oliver, there is no place, no territory in the whole world where you’ll ever be safe again”.I can not wait for more of Cooper and Oliver, their witty banter, their multiple suitcases packed chock full of issues, their friends and families filled with humor, love and dysfunctional dynamics up the wazoo and the mystery and intrigue that dogs their every step.
